Casa Caminada

A Taste of Graubünden Hospitality and Culture

Nestled in the heart of Fürstenau — often called the smallest town in the world — Casa Caminada is a unique destination that blends relaxed hospitality, regional culinary pride, and thoughtful design. Founded by acclaimed Swiss chef Andreas Caminada, this special place celebrates the spirit and flavours of Graubünden while offering guests a welcoming and grounded experience. My husband and I visited this place 7 years ago (already!) and we need to go back as a family of four this spring for some family hikes!

A Warm and Inviting Guesthouse

The guesthouse at Casa Caminada comprises ten beautifully appointed rooms, each with its own charm. Designed with simplicity and comfort in mind, the rooms reflect the surrounding alpine landscape and offer views over the historic village and distant mountains. Waking up here means savoring the quiet of Fürstenau and the scent of fresh bread from the wood-fired bakery downstairs.

Culinary Heartbeat: The Restaurant

In the restaurant, flavours take centre stage. Casa Caminada serves dishes rooted deeply in the culinary traditions of the region — think Capuns, Maluns, and dried pear ravioli — made from locally sourced ingredients and interpreted with fresh, modern sensibilities by head chef Mathias Kotzbeck and his team. Whether it’s a leisurely lunch, a glass of Bündner wine on the terrace, or a family meal, guests feel instantly at home.

Bakery, Concept Store & Local Craftsmanship

Beyond food and stay, Casa Caminada also embraces artisanal craft. A wood-fired bakery produces rustic breads and seasonal specialties, while the adjoining concept store offers culinary treasures — from local cheeses to handpicked regional products. This mix of gastronomy and lifestyle creates a space where visitors and locals alike meet, linger and take home a taste of the Bündner culture.

Architecture & Ambience

The house itself is a testament to thoughtful architecture. Originally two old stables, the structure was transformed by architect Gion A. Caminada into a place of tranquillity and conviviality, retaining historical character while adding contemporary touches. The result is a harmonious mix of old and new that mirrors the spirit of the region.

A Place to Stay, Savor & Explore

Whether you’re stopping by for freshly baked bread and coffee in the morning, lingering over a regional dinner, or planning a relaxing overnight stay, Casa Caminada offers an experience that feels both authentic and refreshing. It’s less about luxury in the traditional sense and more about soulful hospitality — where simplicity meets creativity and where every visitor leaves with a greater appreciation for Graubünden’s flavours and traditions.
